Orchard Place is proud to administer a community award in memory of Michele A. Moore and her lifelong work as a child advocate.
Michele Moore devoted her career to protecting children, serving 18 years as a supervisor in the Child Assessment Unit at the Iowa Department of Human Services and more than 20 years on a multidisciplinary team ensuring children received appropriate services. Her commitment extended beyond her work at DHS; she taught parenting classes to Sudanese immigrants in Des Moines and traveled to Africa to care for ill children at a remote hospital. Remembered for her kindness, positivity, and unwavering dedication to others, Michele left a lasting impact on the children, families, and colleagues she served.
In honor of her legacy, we are now accepting nominations for the 2026 Michele A. Moore Award of Distinction, recognizing individuals who demonstrate a deep commitment to improving the lives of children and families and advancing the prevention of child abuse.
The selected recipient will be recognized at the Trauma Informed Care and Juvenile Justice Conference on June 9, 2026.
