From Direct Care to Transformational Leadership

At Orchard Place, mission impact is not just about the work we do. It is about the people who show up every day ready to grow, lead, and make a difference. Lindsay Porter is a powerful example of that commitment in action.

Lindsay’s journey with Orchard Place reflects both dedication and purpose. She began her career as a Milieu Treatment Counselor, where she worked directly with youth at the Residential Campus. Through her strong work ethic and passion for supporting children and families, she advanced into a Milieu Treatment Coordinator role. After some time away, Lindsay returned to Orchard Place as an intern at the PACE Center, continuing to deepen her skills and connection to the mission.

From there, she transitioned to the Child Guidance Center as part of the Functional Family Therapy team. Today, Lindsay serves as the Functional Family Therapy Supervisor, leading a team that works directly with youth and families during some of their most critical moments.

Functional Family Therapy, also known as FFT, is a short-term, evidence-based program designed to support at-risk youth ages 11 to 18 and their families. The program focuses on identifying family patterns, building practical skills, and strengthening relationships to reduce the likelihood of involvement with systems such as Juvenile Court Services or the Department of Health and Human Services. Therapists work closely with families to create meaningful change that lasts beyond the program, with continued support available when needed.

In her role as supervisor, Lindsay not only leads her team but also helps ensure families receive thoughtful, effective care that creates long-term stability. Her leadership is rooted in both experience and empathy, shaped by her journey through multiple roles within the organization.

In addition to her work within FFT, Lindsay has taken on a significant leadership role in planning the upcoming Trauma Informed Care Conference on June 9 and 10. Following the retirement of a long-standing team member who led the conference for 16 years, Lindsay stepped in to help carry this important work forward. She has collaborated with community partners, supported marketing efforts, secured sponsorships, and helped ensure the conference continues to provide valuable learning opportunities for professionals across the region.

Lindsay’s impact extends even further. She has also partnered with teammates to support Nationwide’s Take Your Kid to Work Day, helping create meaningful experiences that connect young people to the work happening at Orchard Place.

Her willingness to step in, take on new challenges, and lead with purpose speaks to the heart of Orchard Place’s mission. Lindsay represents the kind of leadership that grows from within and strengthens everything around it.

Because of Lindsay, families are building stronger connections, teams are supported, and the community continues to benefit from compassionate, high-quality care.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, her work is a reminder that meaningful support for children and families can change the trajectory of a life.
